Mercury in Taurus

Posted by Shannon Cunningham on

Mercury entered Taurus on May 11th and will remain there until May 26th.

Mercury is a zippy planet, as it take only 88 days to cruise one full rotation around the sun. Therefore it spends about 2-3 weeks in each sign…. unless it is in retrograde.

Mercury represents what you like to think about and how you tend to communicate best, so whatever sign it is in at the time of your birth tells a piece of your story. Of course you also have to take into consideration what house it is placed in, what aspects it makes to other planets and angles as well as what houses it rules and how it is disposed... but I digress!

Mercury in Taurus people like to think about Taurean things like values and resources and the acquisition of material goods and sensual pleasures. They typically have very good minds for business. They rarely jump to conclusions as they like to have all the evidence first and once they form an opinion, they can be quite stubborn about it.

My hub has his Mercury in Taurus and I love watching the way he thinks. He is often the last person to speak at parties and when he does- it’s solid. I also see him measure his communication with me, which is smart (sometimes life saving) and I envy that ability he has to say exactly what he means.

I was born with my Mercury in Sagittarius so love subjects like philosophy and religion and anthropology and I have a lot of varying interests. I can be a blur of words, prone to talking out my opinion as I’m forming it which can get me into hot water. My father used to say “Shannon! THINK before you SPEAK!” Lol. People born with Mercury in Sadge are truth seekers and they can be beautifully honest, but first, they need to focus their mental forces!

People who are born with their Mercury in Earth signs, especially Taurus and Capricorn, will tell me that their communication abilities earlier in life sometimes felt a bit constipated. This is because they are methodical in their thinking so they like to measure twice and cut once. Over time, they learn how to speed up their communication and do not struggle as much with articulating their thoughts. And when they do come out, I notice they are very well refined.

Our current Prime Minister, Mark Carney, has his Mercury in Aries and those who work closely with him say that he can sometimes use his words like a taser! You could see him use this weaponized Mercury to good effect during the election debate. He's all nice and Pisces, watchful and smiling and then, if provoked- out comes that fiery and warring Mercury. Huzahh!! I really like this about him.

Do you know where your Mercury is in your Natal Chart?
