“Hello, my name is Archie.”

As an astrologer, it’s hard not to know the birthdate of your dog! But it is fun to try to guess:)

What we do know is that based on his teeth, he is approximately two years old. Harrison was the one who pointed out that it was 2 years ago that I lost my little soul mate Virginia. She was Aquarius Sun, Scorpio Moon and 20.5 years was not long enough.

This little boy is completely different from Virginia who a) was a cat and b) had A LOT of attitude. She loved me and no one else. I think she knew that as a Scorpio, there is a certain way I like to be loved... TO THE EXCLUSION OF ANY ONE ELSE!! Ha ha! She did learn to tolerate Harrison but if we had even the smallest disagreement, she would hiss and give claw to him. That cat, omg...

Archie is a lover of people and other dogs. He loves playing with other dogs. He's even tried to engage with a couple of coyotes. "If not friend, why friend shaped?" I've wondered if this friendly gregariousness makes him a Gemini, Aquarius or a Sadge.

He will sit on your foot or your body, if he can, to try to secure you. His appetite for pats and love is endless and he is the sweetest little thing imaginable. Every morning is like Christmas morning, waking up to his tail thumping as soon as he sees you. His affectionate love-lapping nature, which made him a shelter favourite and this ultimately saved his life, makes me wonder if he's a Taurus, Leo or perhaps a Cancer.

He also makes us laugh many times a day. No wonder dogs lower peoples blood pressure! This dog has the weirdest little quirks. He's terrified of a small stretch of hallway in our house which he will NOT go down. He chases his tail and then chomps on it like it's some enemy that has to be subdued. He has a bunch of theories about where he has to lay and behave (under the table, not looking at us, but with his head facing one of us) to get some of our scraps from dinner. This strategizing makes me think he could be a Virgo and his phantom fears (there are more than just the hallway) makes me think- Pisces? I mean, what is it he's seeing sometimes?

He's resilient. We have no idea of what happened to him in those first two years, but he was found eating garbage, unfixed and with a bad case of heartworm, outside a mall in Asan. He was treated by a vet and penned outside at the shelter that took him in. It was winter there, so he pushed out a lot of excess fur to survive in the cold. Their nickname for him was "big butt boy". He took a transatlantic flight over from South Korea in the belly of a plane, was fostered by three different families (a few weeks at a time) and he shows no signs of a traumatic past. He shed tonnes of fur once he got here (we were pulling it out in chunks!) and by the time he finished moulting, he looked way more Lab than Jindo. This all makes me wonder if he's an Aries.

We got a trainer for him and he said in all of his years working with dogs (Terry is a retired Toronto Police officer who headed the K9 unit) Archie was one of his best dogs. When he first took him for a walk, he said to us "Oh, he's going to be easy to train. He wants to please you." And when I asked how he knew that he said "Watch how often he looks over his shoulder to check in with you and make sure you're okay with him" and then we did and it was every few meters. He is such a smart boy: mastering sit in an afternoon and giving paw in one day. Once he figured out his new name (that took a bit) his recall was solid. His calculated cleverness makes me think Scorpio or Capricorn. This dog worked his way in to getting everything he wanted. He convinced us not to crate him by night three and has never destroyed anything in our house. He also has full reign of the couches at this point, and sometimes deigns to come to our bed and wiggle in between us... and then he stretches out.

We are extremely grateful to Band for Animal in Asan for rescuing him from the streets of South Korea; Taking him in and giving him much needed medical attention and love. And for searching so hard for someone to adopt him. They kept him for three months in their bursting at the seams shelter. Thank gawd he was such a charmer. Could he be a Libra?

This led them to the amazing organization Fetch + Releash who flew him over to Canada and arranged for foster parents to care for him until he could find his forever home. We had friends who met him while he was being fostered and they told us we MUST get this dog. So we arranged to meet him before he was even listed on their website.

There truly are angels who walk this earth, and the people who cared for Archie and saved his life are evidence of this. They must have brilliant 6th Houses!

We are so very thankful!!
